Greetings parents:
I hope you have had a lovely long weekend. Just FYI, I will not be here tomorrow, but Ms. Gilmore will be my sub. She used to teach 4th grade at Dolvin and is very familiar with the way we do things. :) It's hard to believe that quarter three is coming to an end. Report cards will go home the week of 3/18. We will be working hard this week to get everything in. I have already alerted the students that still owe me work. I will remind them Wednesday and they will have until Friday to get it in.
Students started sharing their instruments last week. I have been very impressed by the creativity and effort! It's a fun way for them to learn about pitch and amplitude.
**Don't forget...Students will need their recorders for music class this Thursday. I sent an email from Ms. Endicott last week. If you have any questions, please email her at [email protected]
This week in...
MATH
Red group will start unit 6, geometry. This unit covers lines, segments, angles, polygons, and symmetry. Our goal is to finish this unit before Spring Break. Their quiz is scheduled for Wednesday, 3/20.
Blue group will work on problem solving (word problems) using division strategies. Their test on multiplication and division strategies is scheduled for Wednesday 3/20. The best way to help them prepare for this test is to give them a few sample problems each night. Their next unit is Adding and Subtracting decimals.
Purple group will start unit 5, 2D figures. Students will learn to categorize shapes based on their properties.
SCIENCE
We will finish the light portion of this unit this week. We will review Friday, and their test is scheduled for Monday 3/18.
We will start our new social studies unit, The Civil War, on Tuesday 3/19.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Nichole Bice
