Greetings:
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and got to spend some time with your family. Who's ready for cooler weather? I know I am. It's hard to believe the first quarter is almost over. Students have been working hard in class.
Reminders:
*PM parents, please remember to send a water bottle with your students. We go to specials right after recess, and they are very hot and thirsty.
*Sign and returns went home last Thursday. If you have not seen them, please ask your child for them, sign and return.
This week in...
MATH
Blue group will finish the geometry unit and review for the test. They will have a review guide and other worksheets to look over. The test is scheduled for Thursday 10/3.
Their next unit will be Measurement.
Purple group will continue to work on division. We will work on problem solving with division and learning how to interpret the remainders in word problems. Their test is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 3. It will cover multiplication and division. Please have your child practice multiplication and division problems at home. Multiplication problems should be up to 4 digit by 2 digit (i.e. 7,092 x 56).
Division problems should be 3 or 4 digit dividends and 2 digit divisors (i.e. 1,865 / 12). They should practice both strategies for division, partial quotient and long division. They should also check their answers with multiplication. Most of the errors they make in mult and div are careless, so please encourage them to take their time.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Students have enjoyed learning about the causes of the American Revolution. I've heard some great questions! Tomorrow we will continue our discussion on the Declaration of Independence and then move on to the battles Tuesday. They are also working on a project in class - the American Revolution ABC book. This will be their summative grade for the unit. Ask them about it! They will have time in class to work on it, but may also bring it home. They quiz on the second part of the unit will be Tuesday, October 8th. There will not be a test for this unit.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Nichole Bice
