Greetings parents!
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend! This will be a short week - only 3 school days.
That means we'll be working really hard for the next few days. :)
**An important reminder: please look at your child's agenda each night to see if they have homework. I initial their agendas each day. Students who are not completing their homework are really struggling with math. The extra practice at home is very beneficial for them, and it allows you to see what they are understanding and what they are struggling with.
This week in...
MATH
Red group will get their multiplication quizzes back tomorrow. Since we will not send home sign and returns this week, I will send home the quizzes tomorrow or Tuesday. Please ask your child to see the quiz and go over it with them. As I have been saying, this unit is challenging for students who do not know their multiplication facts. We are moving on to division this week. We will start with the partial quotient strategy. I have videos on google classroom that explain how to do this strategy.
Blue group will continue with the geometry unit. Monday and Tuesday we will cover quadrilaterals. They will have a quiz Wednesday. The following week we will cover symmetry, and then they will take their test. I will keep you updated on the date.
Purple group will continue with division this week. They have done really well with the partial quotient strategy. This week we will work on the algorithm (long division) strategy.
They will also work using these division strategies to solve word problems.
SCIENCE
Students received their water vocabulary quiz last week. Ask them about it. This week we will continue with the weather portion of this unit. In this unit students will be learning about weather vs climate, clouds, weather instruments, and weather maps. They may ask if they can watch the weather part of the news so they can show you some things about the weather map. They have already received their weather vocabulary, and this week they will receive the notes. They will have a quiz the week of 10/8.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Nichole Bice
