Greetings parents:
I hope you had a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving with your families. I’m sure the kiddos will be excited to share stories of travels, playdates, movies, games, yummy food etc. We only have 3 weeks until the holiday break. But we will be very busy, as that also marks the end of the first semester! I’ve included all the quiz/test dates for the next 3 weeks below.
***Reminders:
The Fulton County requirement for Iready Math minutes is 45 minutes per week. Although students work on it during class throughout the week, they are allowed to work on Iready at home too.
Don’t forget to check your child’s agenda for homework pages and assessment dates.
This week in…
MATH
Purple group will begin unit 4, (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions). I’m separating the unit into 2 parts. Part A will include adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators. We will complete Part A before the break, and begin part B when we return. Students will get practice packets Tuesday. The quiz is scheduled for Tuesday 12/12, and the test is scheduled for Thursday 12/19.
Blue group will continue with Unit 1a. This week we will cover exponents, order of operations and translating mathematical expressions. They should use the packet to practice at home and I will also give homework pages. The quiz is scheduled for Thursday 12/12, and the test is scheduled for Thursday 12/19.
SOCIAL STUDIES
We will continue the New Nation unit. This week, we will cover the 3 branches of government and learn about the system of checks and balances. Students have a notes packet and vocab words are highlighted in their SS workbook. I will encourage them to bring the workbooks home, but please make sure they put it back in their backpacks to bring back in the next day. The quiz is scheduled for Friday 12/6, and the test is scheduled for Friday 12/13.
Before the break, I introduced the project for this unit. They are making trading cards for 5 of the framers of the Constitution. They should have the project description and rubric in their binder. Some students might have started on it over the break. Students will have time in class to work on it, but they can work on it at home also. The project is due Monday 12/16.
Please let me know if have any questions.
Sincerely,
Nichole Bice😊
