Greetings:
I hope you had a great long weekend, and enjoyed the nice weather with your family!
I love the cool temps!
Your child may have told you about the new science project. The students seem excited about it! I want to explain a few things...
They do NOT have to make a fancy instrument that already exists (i.e. I'm not expecting them to bring in a handmade violin or wooden guitar). They do not have to play a song on it. They are creating something that can change pitch and volume. We have talked in class extensively about how to manipulate instruments to change pitch. I have done this project with my students for years, and I always see a variety of instruments. Some are simple using items found around the house, and some are more elaborate. Your child can be creative and have fun, but the object is that it has to change pitch and volume, and they need to be able to explain how. There is also a written/typed portion. They have the instructions and checklist of everything to include. They will have some class time to work on it this week. Students can bring materials Wed, Thu and Fri. The due date is Tuesday 1/28. They will probably want to work on it at home also. I'm happy to answer any questions! :)
This week in...
MATH
Purple group will review Tuesday, and take a quiz Wed on multiplying and dividing fractions. We will cover line plots Thursday and Friday. Their unit 4b test is scheduled for 1/29.
Blue group will review Tuesday and take a quiz Wed on multiplication and division. They will work on word problems and math tasks Thursday and Friday. I can tell they have been practicing! Their test is scheduled for Wednesday 1/29.
SCIENCE
We will talk about light - how it travels, how it interacts with objects, reflection and refraction etc. They will have vocab and notes in their binder. They will also work on their instrument project.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Nichole Bice
